As we announced a few days ago today at 10:00 AM Pacific time Apple is hosting an event prezenting the press with the latest build of the iPhone OS, the 3.0 version.



We hope that this update will provide hints of what the new third generation iPhone (that is supposed to launch this summer) will be like.




LIVEBLOG:

- 09:15 - everybody is outside, waiting to go into the conference room;

- 09:45 - people are in their seats, waiting for the event to start;

- 09:55 - Jos and Katie Cotton from Apple are getting ready;

- 09:55 - "Our presentation will begin shortly, please silence cellphones and pagers."

- 10:01 - "Good morning everyone, welcome to the campus." Greg Joswiak!

- 10:02 - He's talking about the success of the iPhone with more than 17 million units sold in more than 80 countries;

- 10:04 - combined with the iPod that's more than 30 million copies of iPhone OS;

- 10.05 - now talking about the success of the developers that chosed to create content for the iPhone OS;

- 10:07 - a video of the creator of the game Trism;

- 10:08 - the App Store had over over 800 million downloads;

- 10:08 - Now bringing Scott Forstall to preview iPhone OS 3.0;

- 10:11 - He focuses on the SDK and again on the developers and the easy way to make money developing iPhone apps;

- 10:15 - Allows subscriptions to be includen in the apps;

- 10:16 - support for peer to peer connectivity;

- 10:18 - Allows comunication with the accessories via dock or bluetooth;

- 10:19 - example is a blood pressure reader that displays info on the iPhone screen;

- 10:21 - Google Maps can be embedded directly into applications;

- 10:23 - Finally they enabling developers to use core location for turn by turn directions;

- 10:24 - Push notification for email and IM clients;

- 10:28 - We're introducing a new API for streaming video and audio. And we're adding an API for in-game voice."

- 10:30 - introducing Meebo CEO that presents the iPhone app they developed;

- 10:33 - Scott introduces EA, "one of the largest game deevelopers in the world with 10 great games on the App Store."

- 10:34 - Travis from EA introduces The Sims 3.0;

- 10:36 - Sims characters can paly the music from your iPod library;

- 10:36 - Scott Forstall now introducing Oracle;

- 10:39 - they prezent some business software, stock alerts and some things about sales, they lost me at "Hello!";

- 10:41 - Bringing up Oke Okaro of ESPN. He introduces ESPN native app, it has push notifications for game scores, streaming video and such;

- 10:45 - Next is LifeScan, a Johnson&Johnson company in glucose monitoring;

- They sure show lots of third party apps and few internal new features of the OS. We starting to lose hope on "copy - paste".

- 10:48 - They're showing glucose testing, the device connects to the iPhone via Bluetooth;

- 10:50 - has alot of usefull features like graphs and dieting plans;

- 10:52 - Next, ngmoco - iPhone games developers;

- 10:54 - Prezenting Touch Pets which seems to be a social pets game;

- 10:55 - Now demoing LiveFire first person shooter with some in game trading system;

- 10:58 - Now up is Smule, creator of Ocarina iPhone music app;

- 11:00 - New app: Leaf Trmobone - i'm so excited;

- 11:03 - You can duet with other players, wooppyyy!!!!

- 11:05 - finally CUT, COPY and PASTE

- 11:06 - simple tu use: double tap a word and a copy/paste menu comes up. Also some controls to allw you to customize the selection;

- 11:07 - pretty much how the rumors described it;

- 11:08 - works with all aps, native or third party;

- 11:10 - There’s a photo icon inside the SMS app, and Scott called it the “Messages” application, which means there SHOULD be MMS coming soon too;

- 11:11 - you can send multiple images at once;

- 11:12 - introducing landscape keyboard in all apps;

- 11:14 - "But the big news is that we're adding support for MMS."

- 11:16 - "Next, Voice Memos."

- 11:18 - Some calendar updates, and now a search function in mail, calendar, iPod and other apps;

- 11:20 - they created a new homescreen for serch called Spotlight;

- 11:23 - Shake to shuffle arrives on iPhone and iPod touch;

- 11:23 - Stereo Bluetooth is now supported;

- 11:25 - Wrapping up, recapping highlights.

- 11:25 - Developer Beta available today;

- 11:27 - iPhone OS 3.0 will ship this summer, free to all iPhone 3G customers;

- 11:28 - original iPhones can use it but not all the features will be available, like stereo bluetooth;

- 11:28 - iPod Touch will have to pay $9.95 for the update;
