Taking Self Portraits
Posted on: 1-1-2008

Well, most of you will simply laugh at this post, but it is actually a reply to all those people complaining that is hard to take self portraits using the iPhone, mainly for two reasons:
- the iPhone does not have a mirror on the back so you can't see yourself while taking the photo;
- the shutter button is "on screen", not a hardware button, so it's hard to locate and press it.

My super tutorial for taking self portraits using your iPhone is:
- start the camera
- with your index finger press the shutter button and keep it pressed
- turn the iPhone around so you can face the camera (continue to keep the shutter pressed)
- extend your arm around one ft, while keeping the iPhone vertical (use your other arm too, like in the top picture, so you don't drop it, your arms won't appear in the frame)
- look into the apple logo (that is actually a mirror) until you can see your lips
- say "cheese"
- release the shutter button

There you go, a prefect self portrait, you will be centered in the picture.

For best results use natural light. And be carefull that you don't drop the iPhone, that will make you look sad in the picture!

TIP: Adding friends to the picture will be more fun. Experiment with the framing but remember the "pressed shutter button" trick.

Digg this so people never claim it's imposible to take self portraits with your favorite phone!
