iPhone V3 picture? Not really! - iPhone Accessories Posted on: 6.7.2009 [Source]

As expected, a day before WWDC rumors about the new, third generation iPhone, got into a frenzy. The official iPhone rumor of the day and probably the one to cause most waves is the leaked photo of the iPhone v3 (or iPhone Video, as some already called it, in hope there will be a front facing camera).
The pictures, originating from the french site nowhereelse.fr (which seems to be down at the moment), can be seen on Engadget (here), where they caused quite a stir, having more than 250 comments from disapointed iPhone fans (and happy Palm Pre early adopters).
Unfortunately, as we did on Motorola Android a while back, it is our dredded task to prove this is a fake.
But this time it is alot easier. What you see in this picture is a iPhone 3G with a black chrome bezel from e-bay, displaying a picture of iPhone OS 3.0 from theiphoneblog.com. Why are we so sure? Well, we thought of this kind of linkbaiting a few weeks ago, but we were too lazy to put it into practice.
Now, it's time for some solid evidence:
- the bezel can be found here: ebay.com
- the screenshot, as you can see in the above picture, is taken from the iPhone OS 3.0 walkthrough from theiphoneblog.com (here). This was actually the big error the photoshoper did: He used this screenshot, keeping the hour and minutes, the date, airplane mode and icon position, too many similarities to be just a coincidence;
- moving the speaker and adding a camera on a plain, black surface is one of the easyest Photoshop works, especially when the result is a blurry image, that can hide any imperfections;
- The back of the phone seems to be a modified image of the famous "matte back casing" that circulated the web a few months ago: macrumors.com.;
Here are some larger pictures:
Again, the thing that screams "fake" is the hour and date. And to be honest I, as an iPhone fan, am glad this is fake, because I expect big things from the next generation iPhone, and was verry disapointed by the lack of improvments of the iPhone 3G. This is a 2 year old design and minor cosmetic improvements just won't be enough for me.
My dream iPhone V3 should look like this:
